GIVE THROUGH YOUR DONOR ADVISED FUND (DAF)

What is a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)?

A donor-advised fund is like a charitable investment account created for the sole purpose of supporting the causes you care about. DAFs allow you to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction, and recommend grants to nonprofits like Last Prisoner Project over time.

DAFs are offered by many financial institutions, including: Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, and your local community foundation

Daffy.org is a great way to dip your toes into the water if you are new to donor-advised funds. They offer a fully functional donor-advised fund available in the App Store.

Why Give Through a DAF?

  • Immediate Tax Benefits
  • When you contribute to your DAF, you receive an immediate tax deduction - even if you choose to grant funds to nonprofits at a later date.
  • Flexible and Strategic Giving
  • You can support multiple nonprofits over time, simplify your recordkeeping, and give on a schedule that works best for you.
  • Amplify Your Impact
  • DAFs often grow tax-free, potentially allowing you to give more over time. And when you use your DAF to support Last Prisoner Project, you’re directly funding reentry grants, commissary support, family assistance, and advocacy for systemic change.
